April 11 2025:
Increase in Income Thresholds
From 1 July 2025, there will be important changes to income thresholds for various employer-sponsored visa streams. These changes are in line with the Government’s commitment to the Migration Strategy, 2023, as recommended by the Migration Review.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Income Thresholds to Increase by 4.6%
- The increase is aligned with the annual Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE) and will ensure that wages for skilled migrants increase at the same rate as Australian workers. This step helps to ensure that skilled migration does not undermine the wages or job opportunities of Australian workers.
Changes from 1 July 2025:
- Core Skills Income Threshold (#CSIT) will rise from AUD 73,150 to AUD 76,515. This affects nomination applications for the Core Skills stream of the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) and the Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186).
- Specialist Skills Income Threshold (#SSIT) will increase from AUD 135,000 to AUD 141,210. This will impact nominations under the Specialist Skills stream of the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482).
- Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (#TSMIT), which applies to the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional visa (subclass 494) and the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187), will rise from AUD 73,150 to AUD 76,515.
These increases are subject to the approval of relevant legislation.
What Does This Mean for You?
New applications from 1 July 2025 must meet the new income thresholds or the annual market salary rate—whichever is higher. Existing visa holders and nominations lodged before 1 July 2025 will not be affected by these changes.
We highly recommend that you lodge any relevant visa applications before 30 June 2025 to avoid having to meet the new income threshold.
