September 12 2024:
New Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) for migration matters
The new Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) will commence on 14 October 2024, replacing the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). The ART will be user-focused, efficient, accessible, independent and fair. The current AAT (Administrative Appeals Tribunal) will cease operations when the ART commences.
All matters currently before the AAT will continue as usual. If you have applied to the AAT for review of a decision, you do not need to submit a new application to the ART.
Any matters that are before the AAT will transition to the ART automatically when it commences on 14 October 2024. Applicants who have applied to the AAT for review of a decision do not need to submit a new application or take any other action.
If you have received an AAT decision, your matter is considered finalised. It will not be considered again by the ART.
The jurisdiction of the ART will be the same as the AAT, which reviews decisions made under a wide range of Commonwealth Acts and instruments, including migration and refugee visas.
