April 7 2025:
Working Holiday Makers have more opportunity to extend stay
On 5 April 2025, the government expanded the list of postcodes for WHMs undertaking bushfire recovery work and other natural disaster recovery work (e.g. floods, cyclones, and severe weather events). This update includes areas recently impacted by bushfires and other natural disasters.
This change applies to:
- Working Holiday Visa (subclass 417)
- Work and Holiday Visa (subclass 462)
If you lodge a visa application on or after 5 April 2025, or if your application is already lodged but not yet decided, this updated list of eligible areas will apply to you.
Why is This Important?
This update is a direct recognition of the vital role WHMs play in helping Australia recover from natural disasters. By expanding the list of eligible areas, the government is offering WHMs more opportunities to extend their stay in Australia through valuable work in recovery efforts.
What Does This Mean for You?
This means more regions and types of work, where you can undertake ‘specified work’, allowing you to qualify for a second or third WHM visa and extend your stay in Australia. It’s a fantastic opportunity if you’ve been considering extending your working holiday or contributing to recovery efforts in affected areas.
A full list of eligible work and postcodes (‘specified work’) can be viewed on the Department of Home Affairs’ website.
